old guy, kokeshi n stuff

i really like this old guy, i’m hoping he’ll turn up again in future drawings, feeling i had a fair bit of brush control with these, but it comes and goes. the girl on the right is a wooden kokeshi doll. the girl on the left looks to me like she’d make a lovely silk design.

in a way it’s kinda nice

sexy girl and sexy eye

I’ve started a new section at the site for post-it notes. Every time i get a collection of post-its done (which i’ve been slacking on lately) I’ll put the ones I like up here. Most of the work will be done in inks or fineliner. The above are in inks, some of the more delicate work i’ve done with a brush.

Post-its are a safe place for me to experiment with something new and challenging, like using a brush, or drawing hands, or developing new characters.

in every way

all hail the post-it

So every day this week i’ve done one or two drawings in ink on a post-it. It’s a quick easy way to defy the ‘painters block’ and get used to the medium. i usually draw the comic me as it’s the easiest thing that comes to mind, and by doing the same thing repeatedly I naturally improve on it, change it, try something a bit more daring.

it’s a safe place for me. it feels as theraputic as life drawing classes only without the bother of having to leave the house in clean clothes.
