all footage must be taken
Saturday, April 8th, 2006There’s definitely a permanent split in indie music now… I give thee… the great triumvirate: Rock | Folk | Electronic with a mix of any two becoming Psychedelic, basically because it’ll be a long rambly bastardization. Indie Pop seems to have no place at all anymore, so i went for a little hunt around the net and found these three nice little gems.
Francoiz Breut - la certitude
CasioTone for the Painfully Alone – Young Shields
Tapesntapes – Insistor
But an URGENT PLEA! for you dear reader: If anyone knows of a radio show that focuses on indie pop (anywhere in the world), i’d love a link to their website. I’m running very short on inspiration and the shows i used to listen to have all moved off into other genre’s.
so young, the foolish
Sunday, March 19th, 2006the muffs – don’t waste another day
pizzicato five – lesson 3003
the makeup – every baby cries the same
broadcast – the world backwards
m ward – helicopter
jay jay johanson – it hurts me so
the shins – kissing the lipless
belly – feed the tree
radiohead – fitter happier
suede – so young
so i’ve just done the “let your MP3 player get you random songs from your playlist” meme.
i had to skip a few which were mislabelled and i didn’t know what they were,
and half of these are actually long lost by EVIL iTune’s and i have to find the original cd’s,
but it’s an interesting list.
If you would like to download any of these, make a comment at
blackbauble’s journal and i’ll dig it up!
ooh-ahh-ooh
Wednesday, May 25th, 2005my shelves are finally up, only a handful of bits to paint, this means i’m ORGANISED, this means i have access to my CD COLLECTION! so this is a tribute to the moment, with 3 songs i haven’t been able to access for a very long long time!
1. Mouse On Mars – Stereomission
2. Seventeen – Seven Ways
3. The Machine Gun TV – Rain
not a representative lot, just some stuff… and that #2 is for you Kathleen.
something bold, something new
Sunday, April 10th, 2005I’ve said before that i think ‘indie’ music is about pushing the boundaries of Pop and frankly the rock/folk reactionaries such as The Strokes and Bright Eyes aren’t doing much for moving music forward. Meanwhile you have the avante-electronic guys who are turning music into a dull and slightly painful experience.
The Swirlies always inspired me for finding the perfect balance between guitar and keyboards. Finding a way to fit both very different textures into the song with equal balance, and then putting gorgeous vocal harmonies over the top.
Then Bjork and Beck came along and started really experimenting and successfully combining genre’s..
Then it all stopped.
The thing that nags at me is that Add N to [X] are gone now… and we have nothing that can replace them and truly say “We are the fucking future!” They were the musical Cyberpunk.
Over the next few days i’ll be collecting songs here, to find influences and pointers towards whatever it is i’m looking for.
Add N to [X] – Murmur One
the ultimate music for science fiction
Tujiko Noriko – Tokyo Tower
electronics, rambly and a bit ambient, but with good tunes.
Swirlies – Sterling Moss
The only band to truly make Keyboards and Guitars work side by side to create new amazing chemistry between them. Great tunes and amazing lyrics.
Throwing Muses – Not Too Soon
This little indie song is really unusual and yet everyone bloody loves it. great sing along tune but really unusual arrangement and vocals.
Breeders – When I Was A Painter
Frankly Kim deal wrote the book on quirky cute indie pop. Pod is the better album in that regard. it is pop with a difference.
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Toby, Take A Bow
This guy has done so much more with a casio than i ever would have gotten around to. understated as this is, this song is just so catchy.
Emiliana Torrini – Sea People
Just to prove it really is all about a beautiful tune. Reminds me of the song New Buffalo did live and Frente’s EP stuff.
Kim Hiorthøy – Det Skulle Vara Fint Att Se Dig, Tänkte Jag
When i’m playing guitar over this stuff my songs always sound amazing, it’s like this is the background noise that just perfects a simple good song.
what you want is everyone – and noone left for me
Tuesday, March 29th, 2005think about Aku-Ma-Tamara-Chan when i hear this song.
